Chivalry is not dead in Ontario

Postby Canadian Jayne » Tue Feb 08, 2005 7:21 pm

I went to lunch at a local restaurant last Thursday as I came in and
sat down, I ordered the buffet, I looked across the room and smiled
at an elderly gentleman at another table who was eating his lunch, I had never met the man before. I went to the salad bar and came back with
my salads, I smiled again and he commented some small talk which we exchanged and I continued on my meal. Soon he was done and as I
was eating he came over and we discussed a little about " How there is
freedom in not having anything" The waitress came to him with his bill
and set mine down, suddenly he grabbed the bill and said he was
treating me to lunch. I insisted NO since he was probably on a limited income and I was working. But he still insisted. I have never had that
happen before., . I kept thinking "WHAT A CHIVALROUS THING TO DO" Thanks RALPH from Cambridge!
We both parted ways, I went to see if I could get a car loan, which I
can't, but just remembering Ralph's small act of kindness made the let
down of not getting a vehicle a little easier to take.

Thanks for sharing~

Jayne, that's really sweet.

Small kindnesses are the most touching sometimes.

You probably brought a ray of sunshine into his life by smiling and talking.

Here's an experiment. I did it today at the supermarket. A lot of times, we focus on our purpose of the moment...the task at hand and tune out everyone around us.

Today at the supermarket I smiled at everyone that made eye contact and EVERY ONE OF THEM SMILED BACK!

In the parking lot, my heart and the shopping bags felt light.

Some people turn their heads, others smile back, others look down,
I've had some say "You're too happy" that's usually when I'm singing and smiling.

You have to look them right in the eyes...it's contagious.

I'm not a Pollyanna, I truly did this the other day.
