What is up with movie industry lately?

Postby KC8t80 » Wed Oct 05, 2005 5:57 am

Am I the only who notices this:

it seems to me that the movie theater industry is in a bit of slump. I wonder why is that? I mean there a number of reason but i think the biggest reason is that movies now a days lack originality or good storytelling. Some of Jim's films are an exception because we all know Jim smart about pick which film he wants to do. But it seems the only movie companies that fullfill the void is Eourpia(they put out Unleashed and Transporter 2 most recently) and Focus (the put out Punch Drunk Love and Enternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind). Don't know I gave the right names for the movie companies. :?: :? Right now, we are living in an era of sequals and repetition.

What are your thoughts everyone?

I find that movies that are done and put out on DVD instead of the theatres are much more interesting-

The problem lies in the Movie awards. They are just not enough insentive to do well.

Thats one of the movies i consider as an exception. The company behind it (i think Eruophia...dunno i said that right) and Focus have been putting out a lot of original films.

I think though movie technology has gotten better. It's just there are few that can back up the stunning visuals.

Basically it's down to money..........they are banking on hi-tec special effects and big names pulling in the crowds.........less important is the actual story/screenplay/dialogue............

Where there is an amazing screenplay it's lucky if it's made............
but a few are..........ESOTSM for example...................

It takes guts, innovation, style and drive.......but some do become acclaimed movies...........

but that doesn't mean we devalue the blockbusters.........just accept stuff for what it is..........and be pleasantly surprised when we find a pearl...

As Yoda would say, "Wise u are!"

i think another problem why people declined to going to the movies is people just downloading them before they come out.

Punch Drunk Love was one of the worst movies I've EVER seen. It was like punishment.....of course, I was sober when I watched it.

There are a lot of good directors though-just cause the movie sucked doesn't mean the director sucked directing- :D

I wouldn't mind if I acted on a dvd movie other than the theatre-

i think another (if i hadn't already mention this) is that the time interval of movies going to dvd is getting shorter and shorter. I dunno why they do it....i can under stand when the xmas shopping starts but other than that people just decide to wait for it to come out on dvd now a days and rent from places like Netflix.

it's because they are coming off the cinema screens faster and faster.........i tried to see cinderalla man when it was on.............it only lasted 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!...............in Glasgow and Aberdeen.......
i spoke to the Cinieworld manager about it and he said it was the biggest shock of the year.............it did so badly they were ordered to pull it ........

Just how many zillions exactly do they have to pull in B4 they are a success...........?..........it seems so hard..........

I think they should start paying the actors after the movie has been in the theatres for a month- :D

When you think about it a dvd movie is almost the same as one out in the threatre and it probably cost just the same-

 U know Lammy that is a good suggestion. they should start doing that....that way the actors can put on a better performance without knowing how much they are going to get paid.

And, some straight to dvd films do cost the same as theatrical films. but a lot of the time they are low budget B-films. but some actually quite good.

If a film is dirctly re-leased onto DVD, it most likely means that Theatres just wouldn't buy the reels. It's not that the movie is bad, it's just that Big theatres don't think enough people would buy tickets. Like Eternal Sunshine. That was only released in a few theaters. None of the theatres close to me baught the film. So I had to wait till it came out on DVD.
