Last night I remembered courgettes are zuchini and aubergines are eggplant. Told you my French was rusty.
In case you are ever in a restaurant with a menu in French: rognons are kidneys.
My father ordered them three times by accident when we first moved to Belgium. The third time he was presented with a plate of kidneys, he had just finished telling the people we were eating with that he had accidentally ordered them twice.  "When in doubt, tell the truth."

Which is why, ladies and gentlemen, I will only eat in an english or spanish speaking country. Unless forced. . .Then it's Off to MCDonalds where they have pictures of their food!

My mom got served a heaping plate of battered, deep fried minnows in the Camargues in France. I had the duck....I was usually willing to trade, but I'm not a pelican. She switched with Dad....he had a plate with 5 or 6 really small fish battered and deep fried.
