Superstitions in new year's eve

Postby Eskarpin » Fri Dec 30, 2005 1:29 am

In new year's eve, there are superstitions and many people does rare things to attract the good luck for the new year, ask desires, to attract the love, money. ...... Here in Spain the best-known thing are the grapes of the luck. It is a matter of eating grains of grape, exactly 12, and each one one must eat it al rhythm of the 12 year end stirs. Each grain of grape represents a month of good luck for next year, as many as more grains manage to eat. ...... supposedly greater luck tendras in the year that enters (that if manage to eat the grapes without drowning you) is Also normal that the person itself view interior clothes of red color (I believe that that is for the love) and something has to be put of gold inside the cup with the you are going to offer (that is for the money)

You do something to attract the good luck in new year's eve?

My Mum always insisted a tall, dark man must be the first person to step across our doorstep after midnight on New Year's Eve. It's bad luck otherwise. Apparently. I remember scuffles, as a child, on our front door as my Mum insisted a man bearing the necessary features stepped into our house first each year!!!!!

I'm lucky, if you believe in it, as my man is tall and dark.....but what would happen if a short. blond bloke snuck in??? :o Who knows.

Hey, I guess I'd be safe if JC landed on my doorstep at 11.59pm huh? :P

The man of the house had to leave through the front door and enter through the back. I remember my Grandad used to do it when we spent New Year with them.

Here in Mexico, is a superstition eating the 12 grapes too; ( bring luck)..that say.. but its very cool and funny try eating all grapes in the same time you tink in the wishes  ; when you eat the grape one by one; you must wish a porpouse or wish, in the midnight ( the clock in the 12 i.m); and wearing underwear in color red or yellow ( red=love and yellow=money); that say too, and wearing new clothes for bring luck in the coming next new year. :P :D

You know, in my twenties I worked as a waitress at one of the hottest nightclubs in town. I was going to school and I saw a lot every night I worked. I guess I was so overwhelmed by the 'nightlife', holidays (especially New Years) I evolved into a homebody. I became an indoor girl. Fire in the fireplace, good book/movie/dvd and a snuggle partner. Maybe a box of frozen HoHo's for a treat! Life in the fast lane gets old real quick. Yeah, even I can have the dillusion Mr. Carrey would stop by for that midnight smooch... but lets be real. Its PJ's and a bowl of popcorn this year. Maybe a Jim Carrey movie will suffice, either Majestic/Simon Birch (I love his voice in that movie)/ or...

Ain't nothing wrong with being a homebody..........i like to snuggle in front of a log fire..candles lit.....a glass of wine occassionally or a coffee......friends around, munchies, great conversation, a good movie.........
And sometimes i like to go to a gig or very rarely a club.........
basically i go with the flow and do what feels right at the time........
Enjoy your night in......make it really special.....

i'm gonna go to a really quaint country pub for a nice bar-meal in front of their huge roaring fire........then the pub cat Guinness will come over for a cuddle and the locals will play Scottish music.........then into Aberdeen to watch the fireworks and off to mums........then home to bed.......
So nice, but chilled too.........
and on New Years day we'll go for a really long walk.........or play in the snow if it's still there............

Well my New Year's Eve this time will be in stark contrast to the one I mentioned earlier! Parenthood does calm those partying instincts!!!
I think it'll be a nice meal at home, plenty of red wine, a good movie and some quality conversation. Not so bad.......
Perhaps I'll talk my guy into watching a Jim movie. Normally we are poles apart on our tastes in cinema, but JC seems to be a mutual No Man's Land!!! I fancy a laugh: perhaps Me, Myself & Irene............
Maybe.

I have rented two movies.

A good plan would be to put a bottle nipple on a huge bottle of sparkling wine, and after drinking 1/2 writing spontaneous train of thought poetry on the Jimericks thread.

I reckon it would be something like this.

Tip tap tip tap goes the keyboard.
A date once gave me all the feathers in a peacock tail in lieu of flowers.
I am fond of avacadoes.
I love artichokes best though
Except for the choke part.

Now that is a funny idea. If I've not had too many to forget, I will try and remember to do that!

There's something about a guy tall and lean
What's not to love about a man call'd Stringbean
Being a sucker for shoulders broad
Those films and pics I could hoard
Don't make me stop, that's just plain mean

Erm, that was written on the back of 3 (generous) glasses of red wine and in less than three minutes. Bear that in mind before you shoot me down in flames.....

Yep, perhaps so. 8)

But, then again, 3 wines is just buzzed. And it's then a BIG jump to get to drunk.
