Don't be so sure. It's one of his next movies. He's not that old yet!

That's a shame about I Love You, Beth Cooper but hopefully Percy Jackson will redeem what Columbus can do. Ripley's the movie will attract as many people as the museums. I found an article of Columbus talking about how outlandish he plans to do it:

I have a feeling "Ripley" is becoming a bad idea. The persons involved aren't the right ones. Specially the director. Give this project back to Spike Jonze, goddamnit! Seen the trailer for "Where the Wild things Are"? Damn, that's nothing less than fantastic.

The film started out with the best people possible:
1. Tim Burton
2. Jim Carrey
3. Writers of Man on the Moon
At least it's supposedly going to get the true treatment it deserves. I wish Gong Li was still attached....luckily Jim is too committed to Ripley's for it to go haywire again. He's confident enough when something's set right.

You might be right g6471!
I just found out that ILYBC bombed out of the gate, debuting at #7 at the weekend box office with $5M. Bruno on the other hand, debuted at #1 with $30M, while both Ice Age 3 and Transformers 2 held up well at #2 and #3 respectively.
I don't know how it will affect Chris Columbus' decision to direct Ripley's, but if he satys on the project, maybe this'll be his redeeming film to direct. Just a thought!

Yeah it doesn't seem like it's going to live up to it's potential. I just hope that when and IF it does come out, it doesn't bomb cuz that would suck!

I saw that. Amazing
The difference with Burton was Ripley was a Biography Movie of RR"s life . Now, its more a fantasy/avdenture movie. I read they want to make it into a franchise thing it if makes big money.
Only bright spot for me is they got John Collee writing it. Hes done some good stuff.

"Hollywood's most successful awful director"? REALLY? Because of 1 bad movie? That doesn't make any sense considering Columbus is the only one getting Ripley's made and has done Home Alone 1 and 2, Mrs. Doubtfire, Bicentennial Man, Harry Potter 1 and 2, and Rent. Those are some great movies. Ed Wood was Hollywood's most successful awful director. It's a proven fact.

As far as I know, it's in-development because John Collee is working on the official script right now.
