Critic ReviewsPost links and comment critic reviews. Jim Carrey’s Christmas Carol Preview Reviewed By Phil Brown The screening offered up about 10-15 minutes of completed footage from the upcoming movie (presumably the same footage that screened at the Cannes Film Festival a few weeks ago). The only difference was that our crew (along with the critics who were being shown the footage in New York and Los Angeles today) would get a peak of what audiences can expect when the film debuts in IMAX 3D in November. While there just wasn’t enough of the movie screened to accurately judge the movie as a whole, the few scenes shown to did show off just how technically impressive the movie will be. I'm in LOVE with him and I Feel Fine
FIRST REVIEWS!!!Hollywood Reporter (a so-so 50%-50% review, saying the film is a great show, spectacular spectacle, but less emotional than spected):
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/film-reviews/disney-s-a-christmas-carol-film-review-1004032505.story Variety (A good review for Jim Carrey, reviewer Todd Mccarty just wishes to see Jim Carrey himself and not his cgi replica: "In fact, Carrey's readings are entirely persuasive, and the animated stick-like body given him would make Peter O'Toole resemble John Goodman by comparison."): http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117941526.html?categoryid=31&cs=1 YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!
FIRST REVIEWS of A CHRISTMAS CAROL!!Urban Cinefile (A very good review, just warns the film is quite dark for kids):
http://www.urbancinefile.com.au/home/view.asp?a=16339&s=Reviews YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!
more REVIEWS!ScreenDaily (A very good review for the film and a great review for Carrey):
http://www.screendaily.com/reviews/disneys-a-christmas-carol/5007580.article "Carrey’s performance and expressive voice work give the film an emotional dimension that just wasn’t there in the earlier Zemeckis motion capture films" "though there are some airborne sequences and chases through narrow London streets, Zemeckis mostly resists the temptation to overdo the 3D effects. Instead, he emphasises the ghost story aspects (some of which may be too intense for younger kids) and builds up audience empathy with Scrooge, making the tale’s traditionally warm and fuzzy finale more than usually affecting." GREAT!! YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!
More Good Reviews for Carrey´s CarolHuffington Post (A very good review on the film and on Carrey):
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/scott-mendelson/huff-post-review-a-christ_b_344320.html "Technology aside, the movie is splendidly acted. Jim Carrey uses the motion-capture technology to give one of his very best performances (he hasn't been this good since Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). Playing Scrooge in several stages of life as well as the three ghosts, Carrey doesn't purely rely on his physical shtick or his famous foolery, instead using special effects to compliment his work. Carrey disappears into the fantastical character and paints a portrait of sad, angry and lonely man. His Scrooge is not the least bit funny and the occasional pratfall or high-flying antic is rarely played for laughs." YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!
and one more good review on Christmas Carol!Den of Deek (this review says the film is a dark piece of good cinema):
http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/349910/a_christmas_carol_review.html "Closer in feel to something like the director's own What Lies Beneath than The Polar Express, but better than both of them, A Christmas Carol is a genuinely impressive, risky piece of cinema, and at times a quite brilliant spectacle. In many ways, it's a very unexpected, and memorable, treat. Even if it's not quite what you think you're going to get when that Disney logo fires up at the start." Nobody reads reviews here or comment on them? Am I the only one interested on what they said? People, come on! It´s supossed to be one of the best Carrey roles and actings!! YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!
Box Office review
http://boxoffice.com/reviews/2009/11/disneys-a-christmas-carol.php "In addition to the remarkable technology on display—a technology that effectively heightens the tale’s fright factor—Jim Carrey is central to this film’s success. He not only takes on the central role of the famous curmudgeon, Ebeneezer Scrooge, but all the Ghosts, Past, Present and Future. Carrey treats the character very seriously, clearly drawing inspiration from Alastair Sim’s interpretation of Scrooge in the 1951 version, still the best live action take on the classic. Carrey’s vocal prowess is rich and varied, lifting the whole enterprise several notches with his amazing performance. Playing all the ghosts is a good idea, as they now logically appear as an extension of Scrooge rather than as intruders." YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!
Christmas Carol is FreshHi! There had been lots of new reviews for the film; Mixed reviews (good ones, very good ones, and not so good ones) but allways praising Carrey´s work.
You can follow the critics reviews for the film on Rottentomatoes (Right now it´s Fresh with 63% of possitive reviews): http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10008502-christmas_carol/ Or you may also look for more reviews on google news looking for Jim Carrey and sorting by dates; Every ten minutes or so there is a new one! http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=Jim+Carrey&ie=UTF-8&scoring=n YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!
Roger Ebert gives the film a favorable four stars and headlines it as "a supercharged Ebenezer Scrooge and a delightful visual experience."
http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbc ... /911059995 "Disney's A Christmas Carol" by Robert Zemeckis (and Charles Dickens, of course) is an exhilarating visual experience and proves for the third time he's one of the few directors who knows what he's doing with 3-D. The story that Dickens wrote in 1838 remains timeless, and if it's supercharged here with Scrooge swooping the London streets as freely as Superman, well, once you let ghosts into a movie, there's room for anything." "So should you take the kiddies? Hmmm. I'm not so sure. When I was small, this movie would have scared the living ectoplasm out of me. Today's kids have seen more and are tougher. Anyway, "A Christmas Carol" has the one quality parents hope for in a family movie: It's entertaining for adults." "Snakes! Why it had to be snakes?"
-Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Re: FIRST REVIEWS of A CHRISTMAS CAROL!!
Y'know, they said A Series of Unfortunate Events was a little scary for kids too, and I can see why, but I don't think it's too scary. Hey, Jim says Evan likes it.
Certified Fresh? Not anymore! It seems that the final percentage for this movie on the Tomatometer over at Rotten Tomatoes is 55%.
According to RT, "Robert Zemeckis' 3-D animated take on the Dickens classic tries hard, but its dazzling special effects distract from an array of fine performances from Jim Carrey and Gary Oldman." I guess you can say that not everybody is into the Christma spirit! Oh well, let's hope that audiences get into the spirit more! "Snakes! Why it had to be snakes?"

i don't get it.......Disney have re-shuffled their big-wigs as a result of CC's Flop..........FLOP?????? .......they say they expect a $50 million loss........well perhaps if they'd released it 2 weeks later it might have had a better first week.........we'd barely had Halloween out of the way.....
and let's face it making ANY film for $175 million was bound to be risky.....geez you can build hospitals for that..... i've not seen it yet, i'm saving it for December but i think it looks friggin amazing and Jim has made something to be rightfully proud of..........kids for years to come will associate him with a CC......the way Alistair Sim did! ggrrrr.........it always makes me mad when they say things are a flop when they've barely been released...........
