Hurricane Frances

Postby idle kid city » Sun Sep 05, 2004 2:26 am

i feel really bad for those people in florida who have to put up with these hurricanes. im glad i live in the mid-west and am surrounded by land! we get a tornado warning every now and then at the most, but i cant imagine what it would be like hiding in a boarded up house from a hurricane! scary stuff!

My uncle lives on the coast of Florida an he left the state almost a week ago. They had to board up everything. It's really sad.

we get some pretty close calls by Hurricanes on the coast of Georgia. I live in Savannah and we've been threatened by many hurricanes. My heart goes out to the people in Florida as well. I wish I could help them.

Our biggest threat was Hurrican Floyd. We had to evacuate but Floyd didn't hit us. It did hit Florida, South Carolina, The Bahamas, Japan, North Carolina, and more. It just went up the coast until the water got cold.

Hurricanes thrive off of hot and warm water. They suck up warm water and that is what makes them bigger. Then as they go up north, they don't make it because the water is so cold. People chase hurricanes and try to stop them by getting giant aircrafts to dump ice in them. It helps make the hurricane smaller a tiny bit, but not by much because there's so much warm water in the south seas.

But yeah, Hurricanes are a pain in the ass but heck, the people on the coast have to deal if they want to live near the coast.

My aunt lives in West Palm Beach, Florida, and she's up in Pittsburgh, PA, for the time being, living with her sisters and all.

Hurricanes suck.

See ya!

REVERSE SNOW BIRDS

Postby Canadian Jayne » Thu Sep 09, 2004 4:04 pm

I think when Hurricane season hits down south they should come
north to Canada.
And when it's too cold in Canada, we just go south.
What a great plan,EHHH?
I think I'll call it "Weather Living Mobility"

I'm supposed to be headed to Florida at the end of this month for vacation. I was headed to Ft Lauderdale & Orlando. Now, I am more worried about my friends who have "Ivan" breathing down their necks than the fact I'm going to have to cancel my trip. One friend of mine is filming a show in the Florida Keys so I hope he makes it out OK. Very scary times. Just goes to show you what Karma can do Jeb Bush-- :curtain: Sorry, my bad..

Frances in Florida...

Postby Jimlover1 » Sun Sep 12, 2004 3:23 am

My brother-in-law John (Mike's bro) and his wife Georgina
live in Melbourne, FL and G didnt want to leave but J said
they should cooperate with the evacuation order, so they
went all the way up to Savannah GA, but theyre back now
and their house is fine from what ive heard, but just a little
rain got in. My mom and 2nd step-father Gene live in Ocala
FL and they were fine after Charley but they left the country
on Aug.31 to go to visit my cousin Dan (Evas bro) in Iceland
and also to Morton-in-Marsh England to visit my dad's cousin's
wife Gwen for her 90th bd. They (mom & Gene) were to be
gone for 2 wks, she didnt specify what day theyre coming
home, I hope their house is ok!

My friend said his neighborhood looked like a tossed salad after Frances hit. Looks like Ivan is headed for the panhandle which is good for Ft Lauderdale but bad for Pensacola. Let's all cross our fingers this will run out of steam.

I went to Ft Lauderdale to visit my friend, then hurricane Jeanne looped back around and we were told to evacuate. I had to fly back to Cali and scrap our planned trip to Orlando to visit Disneyworld. Luckily my friend didn't get any structural damage to his home, but the roads and streets are wrecked. He just got his power back on last week and now it's off again. I can't imagine the frustration of being blown around week after week. I've decided to go to Disneyland instead. I'm really sad I had to leave my friend in such a bad situation...
