I'm not brave enough yet to post one of my own
so I will add one of the only poems I have ever memorized. It was recited by my grandfather who is now 92 years old. He is the wisest man I have ever known and communicates with his family of close to 200 by email on our family website....
.......he was 5 years old when he was given the poem to memorize for a performance given at the one room school house that he attended. He can recite it to this day......
"Money never troubles me, I haven't got a cent
All I ever did have, has long ago been spent.......
What I DO have is HEAPS of love
and with that, my heart's awhirl
It makes me heart go pitty-pat
Now all's I need's a girl
So if there's any girl about with lips as sweet as honey
I'll give her all the love she wants, but I ain't got no money....."
He said he was embarrassed by the laughter and giggles that erupted from the crowd when he finished. He was so young that he thought he had messed up the recitation and sat down in his seat thinking he had failed to make his momma proud.....!!!!
