Your first real job....

Postby quirky » Mon Sep 26, 2005 10:29 pm

I'm curious to hear about people's first jobs. I'm convinced I had the BEST first job ever. I talked on another thread about helping out in my parents' hardware store, but in 1983 we moved to the Washington DC area. I told my mom when I was 14 that I wanted to go to work. I didn't like babysitting and wanted a regular job. So one day we just walked into the West End Dinner Theatre in Alexandria, Virginia. I asked if they needed any help and the stage manager, I'll never forget his name, Chappell Aldridge, said "our light board operator just quit if you're interested."

They were doing a production of "The Music Man" and the stage manager would call the cues to me over a headset and I'd make the appropriate changes from a board backstage.

The people I worked with were SO GREAT! We were always laughing and kidding around.

Unfortunately, I only got to do it for about 4 months before we moved to Belgium. I missed those co-workers for a LONG time.

My first job was working for Halfords- a car-part superstore. I loved it at first, and I had 2 great bosses. I also met my current best friend there. He was in charge for a while, which was always fun, cos he'd boss everyone but me about!
However, it soon went downhill, and a big fight erupted between 2 people last July. One was sacked, and on the same day, I handed in my notice. I've never looked back. I'm only in my second job, and I've just been told we're having a new store built soon, I'm SO excited!

Sucked. Nothing good about it.

But subsequent jobs were awesome.... it's the people that make the place.

I haven't had my first job yet... and I'm not looking forward to it. I'm shy :(

I was a trail guide at a horse ranch. People would rent horses by the hour and I would lead them from the ranch down the trail to the local beach. Best summer ever, I was 14.

I was very shy before I started my job. It'll be the making of you, trust me.

My first (and only) job is working at Paul's Produce as a produce clerk, cashier(when needed) and janitor(when needed). I love my job and plan on working there until i either move or find a better job. Which ever comes first. 8)
