Road Trip

Postby Cheryl Anna » Mon Oct 31, 2005 9:53 pm

Next weekend, I am going to the cities where I lived as a child and attended elementary school, junior hight (now called middle school), and where I began high school-before I moved to Glendora.
In 1971-1972-I lived in Newbury Park, CA
1973-1978 I lived in Thousand Oaks, CA.
I am so looking forward to this-I got maps. Last time I was in Newbury Park was in 1981-visiting friends.
I wonder if I'll see anybody I know-I didn't keep in touch-MAYBE-MAYBE NOT!

We were there!

Postby Cheryl Anna » Sun Nov 13, 2005 12:08 am

We finally did go on Wednesday-and came back the next day.
We visited my old house in Newbury Park, and one of the apartment buildings that I lived in in Thousand Oaks.
Then, we visited Madronna Elementary School, Redwood Middle School, and Acacia Elementary School. We walked around the elementary schools (all of the schools looked great-well maintained) and I went to the doors of my old class rooms. The auditorium of Acacia Elementary School was open-so we looked inside. I was so happy to see that the schools are doing well.
Then, we went to "The Oaks Mall' It was built in 1977-but is still clean and the stores were cute. They still had the walk-in there where I saw "Grease"-with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta.
I was a little amazed about how much Newbury Park and Thousand Oaks have grown. There was a little traffic-a lot of people. And, I also saw schools that weren't there before, but were built because of the population explosion.
I do hope to go back, some time.

I am so happy for you! I love road trip, a few years ago our family rented a minivan and left California for a cross country journey relatives in Chicago/Indiana. I fell in love with Iowa! 6 adults and one child. A lot of truck stop breakfasts (Best breakfast I ever had was in Laramie) Wyoming. Growing up in California I was pretty sheltered. When we entered Wyoming and we kept seeing these large fence-like structures in the middle of fields. We must have discussed these 'mystery' structures for an hour trying to figure out what they were... well duh! (they were for snow drifts) We still laugh at ourselves how long it took us to figure it out. Obviously, snow is not something we see very often!
