Boxoffice: Fun With Dick and JaneAs much as I want to see Jim get another hit, I think the holiday season is too full of major films that are expected to make big money for it to be as huge as some people are saying. You've got Narnia & King Kong which just opened and are pretty much guaranteed to get at least $225 million each. Then you've got Cheaper By The Dozen 2 (the first one made $138 million), The Producers (a popular movie & Broadway show), and those Oscar hopefuls that usually pull in good money this time of year.
I'm not saying Dick & Jane will flop, because I expect it to get around $100 million, or $125 million at the most. There's no reason it shouldn't match Lemony Snicket's numbers from last year, but anything above $150 million is most likely wishful thinking. Who knows, though, because no one saw Meet The Fockers getting $279 million last Christmas. Maybe Dick & Jane will surprise us! I know I'll be there opening day.
King Kong opened this week with a $66 m. I think there is a good chance that Fun With Dick and Jane will have a $35-55 m opening next week (5 days).

I believe it will be....between 200 and 250 million. Reason being:
It's the same comedy people love from Jim, there is really no other comedy like that being released on that day, right close to Friday. Parents will want to drop their kids/youth off and go shopping. Everyone wants to see it where the big evil guy gets it back, like in Robin Hood. I guess it just seems to make everything more fair then. It evens out the injustice.
but riddle me this Canadian Jayne.....what would appeal to kids more a movie w/ political satire about Jim robbing places to keep his way of life and getting back at his boss.......or a movie w/ steve martin & his giagantic family butting heads w/ eugene levy & his giagantic family?

The trailer is great, for us, the fans ... but besides that it actually a mess. The critics, so far, say it isn't all that fun. You have the major bombs als Narnia & King Kong and for the cinefreaks, the new Spielberg Munich. Kids and parents will see Potter or Kong/Narnia, in worst case even Cheaper by the Dozen. i don't know, not a good time for opening this flick. When both trailers compared, Bruce Almighty also looked Almighty, Dick looks like a bit of fun.
Grrrr, sadly... I cannot make a prediction. I would go by how many people I saw in the theater today... and might I add it was NOT a lot. So little in fact, you could be sitting in the very back and carry on a conversation with a person sitting in the front.
I don't know? I'd like it to be successful but I myself wasn't all too fascinated with it. I'm sad to admit that. What makes you weak is what makes me stronger.
Reply to KC..I believe most people will go due to curiosity re:
The dog thingy, the elevator thingy, the masked robbery thingy and just the fact that it is a small family thingy. Which is America today. The one to two children per family. We had a movie about Lotsa Kids which is really good mind you. It is a problem solved movie, alot of people are facing the idea of joining two families together, myself included and most of us need alot of tips re this subject. But I believe people will want to see Jim, it has a bit of a Christmasy idea to it. Also competiiton between two families has been done before and the fact that it is a sequel. Although I have yet to see it, which I probably will but Fun with Dick and Jane is on my list next, hopefully tomorrow. I think Narnia will compete more than King Kong. But I went to see the movie about Johnny Cash and June Carter, the other feature at the theatre was King Kong. The theatre, which is rarely full, was full for the Cash show, remember I'm in a little teeny tiny town. I didn't see how many were there for King Kong.
you never know. when i went to see lemony snicket there werent alot of people but it did good in the box office opening weekend
Wednesdays numbers:
No. 3 / Dick & Jane / $3,761,129 / 1 day (21-12-2005) / $1,281 per screen Narnia no. 1, King Kong no. 2!! Poor Wednesday numbers for all movies. There is hope for "Fun With Dick & Jane". Hopefully it will gross more than $100 mil, but I doubt it...

My sons saw it last week...I haven't heard their opinions of it yet.
Once people see Kong, they'll either see Narnia then Dick & Jane. But Kong's been out for a week already, I think Kong will drop too. Ding Dong Boooooooog goes Kong. We need a smiley Kong goiing doooown.
