I have such respect for the civil rights movement he led by peaceful protest when civil unrest was so violent. Since the 50's, we have been struggling with race relations, why its so difficult is beyond me. Along with Ghandi, we have been shown there is a peaceful way to protest; without violence.

Race relations is such a tightrope to walk. Without knowing the other persons past experiences, you could never know discrimination unless you discuss it openly and honestly. Each generation we become more educated and walls of predjudice break down. Its only skin color, language and religion. It reminds me of Babylon, when the tower to Heaven was built. It was destroyed and broken into different languages and religions to keep us apart. Slowly, with each generation we rebuild that tower and bridge the gap with knowledge and understanding.

When political correctness shuts down communication...things start to fall apart. And King wasn't a perfect person, but he was human...sometimes people with flaws can teach us the most.

He knew that there was a problem, and he was brave enought to do something about it, whether or not he was a perfect person isn't the question, nobody's perfect. He knew something needed to be done and he had the guts to put it into action. He is an admirable figure, and I'm honored to take a day off of school for him. :D
