Carrey and Spielberg to play "Hardball"?
20 Jul 1999 According to Reuters/Variety DreamWorks may be interested in "Hardball," a John Gatins script about an inner-city little league baseball team in Chicago's gang-plagued Cabrini-Green housing project.
The movie was originally being developed by Paramount and set to be directed by Brian Robbins and produced by Mike Tollin, the same team behind "Varsity Blues," but that was up to the moment Steven Spielberg read the story and got interested in it. The rumor factory has it that Dreamworks may now co-produce the film with Paramount.
The studios are currently in the process of looking for a leading man and the project has been taken to Jim Carrey for his appreciation. Word is also out that if Carrey accepts it Spielberg might not only produce but direct the movie as well. Both studios stated nothing is decided yet.
