"I Love You Phillip Morris" Finally Lands Distributor
12 May 2009 By TNPihl (JCO Editor-In-Chief)
According to Variety, Consolidated Pictures Group has bought the U.S. distribution of "I Love You Phillip Morris" and it will hit theaters around next years Valentines Day (February 14, 2010).
The movie has had difficulties finding a U.S. distributor because there were concerns due to its strong graphic homosexual content and was mentioned as a possible straight to DVD.
CPG has brought on Matthew Cohen to supervise marketing and distribution. He worked on the campaigns for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Hairspray" and "No Country for Old Men."
Plot Summary:
Based on a book by Houston Chronicle crime reporter Steve McVicker, the fact-based film casts Carrey as Steven Russell, a married father whose exploits landed him in the Texas criminal justice system. He fell madly in love with his cellmate, who eventually was set free, which led Russell to escape from Texas prisons four times.
The script was written by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Bad Santa).
Consolidated Pictures Group:
CPG is a company set to distribute 4 movies per year and is determined to help out other filmmakers who have found todays distribution model for independent films broken and ineffective.
Cannes Film Festival:
The movie will be shown at Directors' Fortnight May 19, 2009, which is an independent section held in parallel to the Cannes Film Festival.
