05 Jun 2012 By Tommy Pihl (JCO Editor-In-Chief)
Jim Carrey demonstrated the features of the new highly anticipated live social video network Airtime today at the big launch event in the Milk Studios in New York City. Airtime is a browser-based video chat service between friends via existing Facebook networks.
Airtime, created by Sean Parker and Shawn Fanning was unveiled this morning for the press and other notables. Other celebrities than Jim were demontrating. Among them were Ed Helms, Alicia Keys, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Joel McHale, Olivia Munn and Snoop Dogg.
Parker and Fanning have collectively built some of the most influential and debated companies of the digital age including: Napster, Facebook, Causes, Spotify, Path, and now Airtime.
"Theres something exciting about bringing spontaneity to the Internet," said Parker. "All of your interactions online are constrained by the people you already know. That wasnt always the case. If it werent for the internet, Fanning and I would have never become friends. As we move from a social graph to an interest graph, there are great possibilities for our world. Thats what were trying to tap into with Airtime."
