Here is an box office update for Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey's "Dumb and Dumber To" which had a theatrical release in November last year and was released on DVD and Blu-ray in February this year.
The comedy had a great opening weekend playing in 3.154 theaters across the country. With $36.1 million it took the first spot. It was the biggest live-action debut for Jim Carrey since 2003's "Bruce Almighty", and was also the best opening ever for the Farrelly Brothers. The audience for "Dumb and Dumber To" was 55 percent male and 57 percent over the age of 25.
It had bigger drops the following weeks and ended its United States run after 91 days in release with $86.2 million. A good result for a sequel released 20 years after the first movie. The foreign box office was almost the same with a gross of $83.6 million. Big markets were United Kingdom with $9.1 million and France. Both countries where Jim Carrey visited for a promotion tour.
The chart for DVD and Blu-ray sales for the first week after its release shows that there were sold 387,342 copies of the comedy. A good start with $7.2 million. After 5 weeks in release more than 600,000 copies are sold and it can add $11.1 million to the total gross. We don't have any info for foreign sales.
