The American Moviegoer Awards
25 Feb 1999 MovieFone Inc. announced on February 11 the nominees for its fourth annual American Moviegoer Awards. THE TRUMAN SHOW was nominated in four categories, two of which went to Jim Carrey - Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor, and Outstanding Line in a Movie. The nominations were obtained through a nationwide poll conducted on Movielink.com, from January 22 to January 31.
From February 12 until March 4, U.S. moviegoers can vote via toll free MovieFone numbers and online at Movielink. Each voter is prequalified based upon which nominated films she/he has seen and votes are weighted accordingly.
The winners will be announced on March 15. A complete list of the nominees and respective categories follows:
OUTSTANDING FILM:
Armageddon; Saving Private Ryan; Shakespeare in Love; The Truman Show; There's Something About Mary.
OUTSTANDING DIRECTOR:
Michael Bay (Armageddon); Peter and Bobby Farrelly (There's Something About Mary); John Madden (Shakespeare in Love); Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan); Peter Weir (The Truman Show).
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR:
Jim Carrey (The Truman Show); Tom Hanks (Saving Private Ryan); Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love); Robin Williams (Patch Adams); Bruce Willis (Armageddon).
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR:
Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth); Cameron Diaz (There's Something About Mary); Gwyneth Paltrow (Shakespeare in Love); Julia Roberts (Stepmom); Meg Ryan (You've Got Mail).
OUTSTANDING LINE IN A MOVIE:
