Web site Entertainment Asylum recently had an interview with Ron Howard, director of the upcoming Carrey film How the Grinch Stole Christmas. In it he stated that he has been looking over concept art for the film.
This has been only the beginning of the live-action adaptation of Dr. Seuss classic story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This past Monday, Jim Carrey tried on his costuming and makeup for his roll as the infamous Grinch. Pre-production is well underway.
Ron Howard (Apollo 13) is directing Grinch, and producing will be Brian Grazier (Liar, Liar). Universal purchased the rights for Grinch from Dr. Seuss widow for $5 million, plus a part of the ticket gross and merchandising. Carrey will receive $20 million up front for acting services rendered.
The film itself will be an ambitious live-action film coupled with computer generated special effects to create Dr. Seuss imaginative world. Release date for the film has been set for Thanksgiving, 2000.
